Dental Filling

  • What is Dental Filling?

    Tooth filling is the treatment of minor dental caries. These dental caries did not affect the nerves. After cleaning the caries in the tooth, the gap formed is filled with a filling material. In our clinic located in Gebze, white composite tooth filling is used as a filling material.

    Normal function and appearance of the tooth is restored and the progression of caries is stopped.

    Who Is Tooth Filling Applied?

    Your dentist can determine whether or not your tooth will be filled with various methods. If we need to separate these methods into items, we can examine them under the following headings;

    • First of all, your teeth can be examined by observation. The color change in your teeth can be checked. Tooth decay is seen in the picture on the left in the figure below. In the picture on the right, the white tooth filling is shown.

  • In another method, caries paint can be used.
  • X-ray film, which is one of the most frequently performed methods, allows easy viewing of dental caries. However, x-rays fail to see some very small bruises.

What is tooth decay? How does it occur?

Acids come out as a result of the bacteria in the oral environment breaking down the sugar in the carbohydrate (sugar) foods we eat. These acids dissolve the inorganic structure in the hard tissues of the tooth.

This deterioration in the hard tissues of the tooth is called dental caries.

A rotten tooth has many disadvantages.

What is Composite Tooth Filling (White Tooth Filling)?

Composite dental fillings are resin-based tooth-colored, white-colored dental fillings. The paste-like material is placed in the opened cavity after cleaning the decayed tissues on the tooth and hardened with LED light.

Thus, the normal function and appearance of the tooth is restored and the progression of caries is stopped.

Tooth Filling Treatment Stages

In the picture below, simply the stages of dental filling treatment are given.

Since composite dental fillings have different color options, very successful results can be obtained in terms of aesthetics by using the colors closest to the natural color of the tooth.

Amalgam fillings are made by mixing silver, tin and copper alloys with mercury.

Amalgam fillings are not used in our clinic . White composite is used instead of amalgam as a dental filling material.

Advantages of Composite Dental Filling

Composite dental fillings are a treatment method that can be used in the treatment of dental caries and fractures. The advantages of composite dental fillings are;

  • If there is no special situation, it can be done in single sessions.
  • Tooth colors can be matched.
  • It provides a good aesthetic appearance.
  • It does not require any special dental care. Dental care and cleaning is like any other normal tooth.

What is the Estimated Life of Composite Dental Fillings?

The lifespan of composite dental fillings may vary depending on the size of the filling, the person’s oral and dental hygiene and nutritional habits. The estimated usage time can vary between 5-15 years. There are also patients who can use it longer. Excessive use of tea, coffee, soda, etc. reduces the usage time of the composite tooth filling.

Amalgam Tooth Filling? Composite Dental Filling? (White Tooth Filling)

As seen in the figure below, “amalgam fillings. Its aesthetics is much less than composite fillings. Since amalgam fillings contain a large amount of mercury in their structure, there are opinions by some experts that they may be harmful. … In a statement published by the European Union Health and Food Administration, it is recommended not to use amalgam in milk teeth, pregnant women and kidney patients [52]. Although rare, some people may be allergic to amalgam… Therefore,
we recommend you to have composite (white) filling instead of amalgam filling in order not to risk it.” [1].
