Tooth Filling, Root Canal Treatment
Milk teeth fall out when the time comes, leaving their place to permanent teeth; However, when they rot, they cause problems such as pain, abscess, bad breath and feeding problems. If they are withdrawn prematurely; crowding in the teeth, speech and chewing problems occur. Because; Decayed primary teeth should be treated and kept in the mouth until they fall out. In this, you need to have dental filling or root canal treatment recommended by your doctor . The following figure shows the composite tooth filling (white tooth filling) stages.
Fissure Sealant Application
The pits on the chewing surfaces of milk and permanent molars are called fissures. Fissure caries constitute 80-90% of all caries seen in children. Although your child has a regular brushing habit, unfortunately, tooth decay may occur in these deep cavities that the brush cannot reach. Fissure sealant application is the process of covering these pits on the chewing surfaces of the teeth with a material (resin-glass ionomer, etc.) that is applied painlessly in a short time without any harm to the tooth.
Flour Application | Fluorine Application
To prevent caries formation, fluoride is applied to the teeth as a preventive treatment [1]. Fluoride adds to the structure of the tooth, making it more resistant [1]. It also prevents the production of acid that causes caries by bacteria [1].
Flour is an element that prevents tooth decay and strengthens them by joining the structure of the teeth. It also protects teeth by preventing acid formation caused by bacteria.
Space Maintainer
Early lost milk teeth can cause conditions such as perplexing, impacted or not where the permanent teeth coming from below should be. For this reason, milk teeth should remain in the mouth until their natural fall. If the primary teeth are lost prematurely for any reason, fixed or movable appliances are used to protect that space until the permanent teeth erupt. These are called space maintainers. [1]
Protective and Preventive Applications (Flour Application, Fissure Sealant, etc.)
According to studies on children’s dental health and caries; It has been concluded that the frequency of caries in children reaches 90% in both primary dentition (between 2-6 years) and mixed dentition (between 7-12 years). For this reason, it is of great importance to apply preventive methods from caries in order to protect the future oral and dental health of the child, and most importantly, the general health (even a single carious tooth can cause many diseases). Dentists, by making these protective and preventive applications at the right time according to the child’s dental and age development, protect children from dental caries, which significantly affect their general health as well as their oral and dental health.
The following preventive dentistry practices should be performed during childhood;
- To follow the development of teeth,
- Gaining the habit of correct and regular brushing and flossing,
- Caries risk assessment of the child and taking necessary precautions,
- Fluoride applications,
- Fissure Sealant Application
- Mouth guards to prevent sports injuries,
- Preventive and stopping orthodontic (correction of tooth debauching) treatment,
- Regular dental check-ups,
Many factors play a role in the success of pediatric dentistry practices, but the basis of success is the patient-physician relationship. With the communication established, the child’s fear and anxiety can be reduced , it is ensured that he feels safe, harmonious and relaxed.
Why Should Children’s Milk Teeth Be Treated?
1) In the period when the child is most active in terms of growth and development, milk teeth play a big role in terms of nutrition.
2) In this period when children learn to speak, it is important for them to pronounce words correctly.
3) Another task of the milk teeth is to keep the permanent teeth in place and to ensure that they erupt in their right places.
4) When the milk teeth decay, it can also affect the permanent teeth coming from underneath, thus creating a defect in the permanent teeth. [1]
5) Decayed milk teeth infect other healthy teeth. [1]
