What is a Dental Implant?
The medical screw made of tissue-friendly titanium, which is placed in the jawbone to complete the missing teeth, is called an implant. The treatment is also called implant dental treatment. A dental implant is a very small but very strong foundation made of biocompatible metals or ceramics that is placed in the jawbone instead of the missing tooth root. In implant dental treatment, an abutment is placed on the implant and a dental prosthesis is placed on the abutment. Teeth created with prostheses made on implants replace real teeth. The dental implant forms a support for the tooth and dental implant is surgically placed in the jawbone under local anesthesia.
The dentist should also carefully examine each case and make the necessary radiological evaluations before the implant is made. Because implant treatment is performed on the intact jawbone, and if there is bone deficiency, this situation is corrected with bone transplantation and bone powder, and it is made ready for implantation.
As in tooth extraction, local anesthesia is applied and the surgical procedure is performed. In addition, implants are applied using open and closed methods. Implants placed in the bone adhere to the bone and complete their healing in 2-6 months. Then the dental prosthesis stage can be passed. While dental implants provide better speech and chewing function than traditional veneers, dental bridges and removable dental prostheses, they also give the face a natural appearance aesthetically.
Implant Dental Treatment and Dental Bridge Comparison
Implant treatment has replaced classical bridge treatments in the absence of a single or more than one tooth. Because in bridge treatment, the teeth in front and behind the areas where there is a missing tooth are reduced. In the treatment of implants, the adjacent teeth are not damaged, as the area of the missing tooth is directly treated. In addition, in elderly patients or in cases where there is too much tooth deficiency, implants are made instead of removable prostheses, so that the patient uses a fixed prosthesis.

WHAT ARE THE BRIEF STAGES OF IMPLANT DENTAL IMPLANT?
Step 1: Diagnosis is made with your dentist and treatment is planned.
Step 2: The implant is placed in the chin under local anesthesia.
Step 3: The recovery process is expected to be completed. The implant is attached to the bone during the healing period of six weeks to several months (the process may differ depending on the indication and the patient’s condition).
Step 4: While the implant is healing, new teeth are produced in the dental laboratory.
Step 5: After the healing process is completed, the final restoration (abutment and dental prosthesis) is placed and new teeth are obtained.
Step 6: Post-treatment care is continued. In order to preserve the long-term functionality of new teeth, oral hygiene is given importance as usual and regular checks are carried out in dental clinics.
DENTAL BRIDGE OVER IMPLANTS
In the absence of a few teeth, the process of supporting some of the adjacent missing teeth by placing implants and thus making a dental bridge is called an implant-supported dental bridge**.
WHAT IS TOTAL PROSTHESIS (OVERDENTURE) ON IMPLANT?
Overdentures are prostheses that are placed on complete edentulous and placed on implants and can be put on and removed by the patient.
As seen in the figure below, 2 implants are attached to a single jaw, increasing the retention of the prosthesis in the mouth. [1]

How Many Implants Are Needed in Completely Edentulous Patients?
In edentulous mouths, the condition of the jawbone, the distance between the lower and upper jaws affect the number of implants. The minimum number of implants is 2 in the lower jaw and 4 in the upper jaw. On these implants, removable total prostheses are made. The advantage over classical total dentures is that the implants are very comfortable to use because they provide retention. [1]
If a fixed prosthesis is desired in a completely edentulous mouth, at least 6 implants should be made in the lower jaw. An application in which 6 implants are placed in the lower jaw is shown in the figure below. [1]

Is Dental Implant Treatment Expensive?
The prices of implant treatments are constantly decreasing due to the increase of implant companies and competition compared to the past years. In our opinion, implant treatment is not expensive compared to the advantages gained.
The most expensive thing is tardiness and negligence. If it is late, the cost of implants and other dental treatments can increase up to 2-3 times.
What is the Price / Fee of Implant Dental Treatment?
It varies according to the brand of the implant to be inserted, the number of implants and whether other treatments are required. After the examination in our clinic, you can be told something more clear. In the dental examination, you can also learn about other problems and treatments related to your mouth and teeth.
WHAT SHOULD BE CONSIDERED AFTER IMPLANT PROCESS?
1-Do not eat or drink anything after the operation.
2-Do not rinse your mouth with any liquid, including water, during the first 24 hours, do not suck or spit.
3- Do not force your mouth to see the operation area, avoid probing with your tongue or finger.
4-Be careful not to use the operation area while eating.
5-Do not consume excessively hot food.
6-Do not drink milk, ayran and acidic beverages until your surgical stitches are removed.
7-Take care not to smoke for at least 1 day.
8-Apply cold compress to the operation area from the outside for 24 hours.
9-Do not walk around in hot weather, avoid the sun, do not stay near heat sources such as stoves and honeycombs.
10- If bleeding occurs in the operation area, apply pressure to the operation area with sterile gauze that you can buy from the pharmacy and inform your doctor.
11-Take the medicines recommended by your doctor as described and on time.
12-Do not use any other medication without the knowledge of your doctor.
13-Do not use aspirin until the operation wound is healed.
14-A week after the operation, go to your doctor to have your stitches removed.
15-Please call your doctor if there is an unexpected situation.
